Hopkins’ backside took a staplin’ at the end of this one.

It’s tough to blame the change from a scoring chance saw-off to a complete thrashing entirely on Hemsky’s injury. It’s just as tough to ignore the timing entirely – the wheels came off as soon as he was done. 80 more games…

Those PP numbers are awful. Not a single chance in 3 1/2 minutes on the pp? Just gross. It’s easy enough to suggest sample sizes, or missing both hemsky/omark, but… it’s not like this is the first time in 5 years the PP has been sub-par.

On the other hand, the pk seems to have drastically improved. That Diamond sure seems to be producing better results this year.

Cam Barker (aka Seabuscuit) ruined 2 posessions on his own by shooting the puck with no lane as soon as he got it, instead of continuing to work the puck around. It’s got to be disheartening as a forward to do all kinds of work to fight and get possession of the puck in the zone, set up and then make 2 passes before your defenseman buries it into a guys shinpads and the puck goes down the ice.

As for the PK, some units are working good… the opposition is getting 35.3 sha/60 when Horcoff is on, 51.4 when Jones is on, but Belanger and Paajarvi are getting torched at over 70 sha/60. In terms of blueliners, Sutton and Gilbert are at 45.0 and 39.9. Smid and Peckham are at 48.2 and 46.9. Those are all good numbers. Barker and Petry are getting torched though, sitting at 67.9 and 66.4 respectively. The good news is that neither of those two play much on the PK, but that Belanger-Paajarvi pairing is not pretty.

Also, the Oilers PK looked good through 2 games last year as well before getting torched.

To me, these numbers speak for themselves. The obvious culprit for the Oilers bleeding scoring chances against is khabibulin (11-17). :p

You guys should really make a separate site for these or put them on behindthenet.com or something.
