lines the same as last game and only change was Khabby as the starting goalie.
Is this a record for lopsided SC’s?
MPS as the only player who was even last night. No plus players on the Oilers period.
Wow.
Thanks for doing this work, Dennis. Much appreciated.
I can’t believe you still have the stomach for this. Kudos to you, sir.
MPS does things in every zone that get the puck back for his hockey team. It’s absolutely amazing to me that a 19 year old kid could be so good at this at the NHL level. I want to believe his offense will come and honestly, he’s on pace for a 31 point rookie season which is just fine at his age, but Edmonton needs to acquire good hockey players to the point where they have a solid top 9. What I can’t believe is that you don’t hear Renney giving Magnus more love in the pressers – he was quick to rave about Hall and Eberle’s (different and more exciting) skillsets.
Haaahahahhahahahaha
I was totally looking forward to this while watching bits of the game last night. In a way, its almost disappointing: 8/26 and 6/17 @ EV almost flatters the Oil. It really felt like it was going to be more like 4/35 and 2/20 EV.
SH: I love 91 and he already does a lot of little things right but I’m still worried about where his offense will come from.
Early on I said he’s gonna be a winger on a line that comes up plus against the other team’s best players and I still think that’s where he lands unless I start to see him shoot and score from positions that lead to goal scoring.
If he is that type of guy then I think that’s less than what people are expecting and it will be soon that you start to see people about talking about building around the two kids in 4-14 rather than including him in that group.
Also, he’ll have to become an ace PKer in order to wring as much value out of him as possible. And hopefully I’m wrong about all of this and he comes back next year and starts shooting to score or at least going to the places that are more likely to lead to goals.
Dennis: I agree that the “how is 91 going to get his goals” question is still up in the air and I do worry about his ability to keep pace boxcars-wise with 4 and 14. I do think he will continue to improve year in, year out though and in the what-you-give-up vs what-you-create world I still feel he has the ability to be top caliber.
You make a really good point about how public perception will change as MPS lags in boxcars despite being an overwhelmingly positive contributor to winning hockey games. It’s sad that we can predict that here and now with such certainty but it’s like clockwork with most fans. Speaking of which, I can’t believe we didn’t deal that bum Gagner at the deadline. 21 years old and zero all star games – dude is washed up.
2011 everyone: the year the Oilers turned me into a cynical bastard.
Perhaps 91 ends up on a top nine checking role with his buddy Lander.
of course maybe he comes out next year and plays in different places but we’ll see how it goes.
