Corsi and chances don’t match in this one

Here’s the way I saw it.

The Preds owned the first period and were helped by two early chances off a terrible play behind his own net by DD and then later a greasy rebound that resulted in a chance for Joel Ward.

But the Oilers came out of the period up by one on a goal from 13 and 27 had the frame’s best chance when he was stopped on a clear-cut breakaway.

The Preds hit two posts in the second period’s first five minutes but the Oilers seemed to take some momentum from a PP and after the teams once again traded posts – the Preds on the PP and the Oilers with a SH post from 13 – the Oilers doubled the lead off a rare goal from their 4th line with 28 doing the scoring.

DD was much more composed in the last 40 min and the Oilers did a good job of limiting the chances. 14′s first goal since his return from an ankle injury made it 3-0 early in the final frame and 27 added the last goal shortly after.

14 had an assist on 13′s earlier tally and has four points in the three games since his return. Right now he has 10 goals and 27 points and is a -1 in the first 40 games of his career.

And he’s doing it playing on a terrible team and most of the time one of his linemates – no matter the pedigree – is the rawest of rookies.

and he’s facing top quality competition.

      Two notes to close.

The Oilers PK has received the benefit of three posts over the last two games.

It looks like 77 may have suffered a concussion or some kind of neck injury midway through the second period and if he can’t go on Wed versus the Hawks we’ll be watching an Edmonton defense corps featuring all of Vandemeer, Strudwick and Foster.

So, hold this victory close to your hearts for as long as you can.

That’s a pretty terrific night from 16 & 28 on the PK. +1/-0 in SC in over 4 minutes is pretty tidy, not to mention 28 killing one penalty off by drawing an equalizer.

In even strength news, Foster had a Corsi of -21 including shots on goal of +0/-14. Yergh.

      Foster was -21 on Corsi?

Wow, it’s just as if Paul Mara was still in this league!

      Wait…

      Dennis:

Not sure if you caught it, but Gilbert’s head injury occurred right after the Eberle PP post. Gagner charged the net looking for the lose puck and put a pretty good knee into steady Tom’s head. Sportsnet showed about 4 different angled replays and none of them were pretty.

      EDM 2 11:02 PP Post 4 4 14 40 77 89 91 6 11 20 29 35 5v4

I just double checked and it was definitely 14s post, not 4.

On that play 14 passed the puck to 4 who hit the far post and then 77 crashed the creased and shoveled the rebound towards the open net before a Nsh D smothered it. Then 89 came in and kneed him in the head.

It was definitely Eberle’s backhand that went off the post. Hall waved his stick at it, but it was Eberles shot.

One of the replays shows it was Eberle’s shot.
