One would only need watch the highlights and see the SOG to know that Khabby held the fort in the first period while Mason fell down on the job for Columbus.

Once the second period rolled around the Oilers showed much more urgency and good sense in their own zone and the BJ’s likely fell prone to a roadtrip and travel docket that saw them jump two timezones and eventually the Oilers rolled past them.

      Just some random stuff:

      - 23 is fun to watch just because he thinks the game on a whole different level and tries things that basically no one else will. His shoot-and-follow goal to open the scoring was so much fun just because who else would try and that also because once Mason helped out with the greasy rebound 23 took it off his skate before transferring it first to his stick and then to the back of the goal. Combine that with his beautiful PP assist and the fact that he got back up after huge hits from Russell and Hejda and the kid carved out a fine game for himself; he also made two great backchecks and these things are important in order to establish confidence with the coach and speed up 67 or 13′s departure if we ever get 10 and 83 back in the lineup together. Going forward I see him as someone who plays on the third line and possibly exploits the other team’s lesser lights while the Oilers top six plays close to even with the other team’s toughs. He’s probably a guy you wouldn’t want to pay real money to so let’s hope the Oilers mature fast enough that he can help out before and/or if he costs real money to employ.
      - Another rough game by 49 and I think he’s had a few in a row now but it’s being covered by a great stretch of work from 77.

      - Another good night by the 89 line even though 13′s line was being asked to go up against the Nash trio. Still, three goals and even points from 89 line is obviously nothing to sneeze at.

      - 6 was 0/5 after 20 min and went on to log 10/0 in the last 40 min and had two assists so another great night by him.

      - Oilers were 5/17 on d zone draws though so that – and not so coincidentally their PK – is still a huge problem. 42 isn’t off to a good start faceoff wise so we’re still waiting to see that skill.

Overall, the Oilers caught the BJ’s in a good spot considering their travel schedule and they managed to take advantage of it.

The next three games could be bloodbaths – a roadtrip that goes through SJ-LA-Van – so let’s enjoy this win, shall we.
