Good on you Dennis for getting this up so fast.

I was worried that the 91-89-14 trio would be in pretty deep, and sure enough. They got 11 shots on net among the three of them, but not too many memorably dangerous ones.

We needed HHH to make some hay, and they really didn’t get much going ’til the third. In fact they all were on the ice for 0 shots for at evens through 40 minutes.

Tough night for 77: outchanced at evens, while SH *and* while on the PP. Ouch.

Considering no one played more with Strudwick and the Paajarvi – Gagner – Eberle line, it’s no wonder why 77 was in deep:

Rough count shows Gagner is now 6/19 with Paajarvi and 27/18 without him.

I had it pretty much same, with my usual higher count, as I’m more likely to count screened shots.

      Detroit 24 Oilers 15, 17-11 at evens.

Those shots off the wing from 4, though, as hard as they are, they’re from outside killzone, IMO, and the goalie has time to set, so I’m not counting most of them.

Over at LT’s site there’s a couple of guys talking about 91 being the weak link out of the Young Three and it might seem like that this morning but I didn’t think it was that easy of a call in camp.

I’ve got some Leaves buddies who are mad that Burke always wants to emulate the old Ducks model of six skilled forwards and six checkers but I think we could have used a bit of there here and decided to keep 14 – because he’s head and shoulders above – and then just one of 4 or 91 and two rookies in the top six playing with respective combos of vets would have been enough.

Early on I thought 4 was the least ready and now it looks like 91 so now let’s see how the Oilers handle this. I don’t think anyone outside of Renney thought it was a good move to have a 91-89-14 line because it puts too much pressure on 89 and it breaks up the blossoming chem of 10-14.

If we keep these lines intact for the five game trip coaches are gonna fall over themselves running at the new 89 line.

I posited this the other day, that’s why it’s being discussed: http://www.coppernblue.com/2010/11/3/1743249/oilers-even-strength-problems-left-wing-needed

      It’s even worse after Detroit.

I don’t think coach’s numbers really point to 91 being that bad. 10 & 14 did roughly the same with & without 91. That leaves 83 & 89 and 13 & 67 pairs. When they weren’t playing with 91 they had 27 – they guy who’s always had great underlying numbers. So basically all were seeing is that 13, 67, 83 & 89 have done a whole lot better with the oilers best player last year than a 19 year old rookie.

I suspect if you ran the same thing with 4 you’d get similar results.

Exactly what are we expecting from him in his rookie year?

      Corsi for top 3 lines.

      Hall -0.8
      Penner -5.2
      Horcoff -6.1
      Eberle -8.7
      Hemsky -9.6
      Gagner -13.6
      Cogs -15.0
      Brule -17.6
      MPS -26.9

91 sits solidly in last place. 2nd worst on the entire team ahead of Jones at -31.6.
