So, I didn’t list the ENG as a chance – it just doesn’t feel right to me – so the Oilers had six goals on a whopping eight chances and that sounds about right to me.

I remember the Oilers dominating early in the first period – I watched the first two periods via an online feed – but it wasn’t like they were swamping Turco it was just a case of a bad first goal allowed and them some fine passing combined with devastating errors by the Hawks or bounces off erstwhile linemen;)

So let’s chalk this up to a lot of luck, some poor opposition netminding and some guys flexing their skill.

Also, props to DB for scoring this game for me!

The Oilers had about 4 great chances in the first period and scored on 3 of them. Higher than you’d expect but they were great chances. The Hall goal was lucky and they were up 4-1 with less than 2 minutes left in the first.

The Hawks scored late and the Oilers got another good chance early in the 2nd (scored again) and they were up 5-2 with 37 minutes left in the game. It was at this point that they basically coasted to the end of the game, so it’s a bit tough to read into the numbers.

DB: True enough and I totally forgot to mention a discussion spurred bym some work from Vic on how chances will go according to score for the most part.

I’ve never seen Chicago play like that, these teams looked like junior teams. Edmonton beat an AHL team tonight and still there D was weak. Chicago will need to find a goalie if they want to repeat.

I think it’s important to note that scoring chances were about dead even (7-8) at the point EDM scored their 5th to make it 5-2.

It wasn’t until sometime after this goal (the beginning of the PPs) that CHI bgean to run up the SCs. So there’s likely some score effect there, part of which is the officiating to the score.

However, that’s an unbelievable conversion rate by the Oil on those first 7 chances. Sure can’t expect that day in and day out.

That almost certainly played a part and I mentioned that a couple of posts above yours.

They were up 5-2 with 37 minutes left in the game so it’s really hard to put too much stock into these numbers.
