The Oilers finished this game at 17-16 EV but that was built strongly on the back of posting five of the the game’s last six EV chances and that’s in the time-frame after the Canucks made the score 7-3.

So, yeah.

So, anyway, the Oilers - when the game was even somewhat in doubt - were outchanced at EV by 12-15 and outscored 1-3.

Still, the biggest problem in this game - outside of the netminding which ranged from Salo-to-Racciot - was the penalty kill. The Oil allowed four more PK goals and it’s the biggest problem that’s been swept under the rug amidst sexier stories like all the injuries and Quinn’s occasional blow-ups.

Speaking of injuries, there’s no doubt that 10’s shoulder problems aren’t helping us with the PK and there’s also the fact that the guy who’s likely our best PK-er - Pisani - is gonna have to battle for a normal life before he even thinks about playing hockey again.

In any case, I’m not sure if there’s enough of the timbre in-house that we need to get this unit out of the abyss but let’s chalk that up to another area that Tambellini should look to address.

Gagner’s only been positive with the first and 4th lines. When he’s in the middle, he’s getting beaten in chances.

From what I’ve seen, Gagner’s better this year and winning more puck battles against tougher players, but he’s still a long ways away from carrying the play on his own against quality opposition.

22 is an anchor on his linemates. He needs to face easier competition, though I don’t mind him flattening the Thorntons and Iginlas on occasion.

JW: Tambo is waiting for Pisani to get fully healthy before he decides on the PK.

Will: I don’t think I saw anything about in in the sphere and I didn’t read about it in either of the papers but I’d say 22 laid three our four huge hits on Joe T last Fri and I thought that got lost along the way.

Anyway, I still like the kid but he’s a fourth liner right now.

Another brutal game for Patrick O’Sullivan. 1-4 at evens, 0-0 on the PP, 0-5 on the PK, for a total of 1 chance for, 9 against. Remind me again why the fuck we’re paying this guy almost $3 MM?
