Something I’ve always wondered about…why would anyone throw a knee on knee hit intentionally? Even if you have no respect for the safety of the other players on the ice, who wants to risk their own knee? I’ve always thought these sorts of plays were largely instinctive, and should be treated as such.
What am I missing?
Kronwall is the defenseman version of Darcy Tucker meaning that it looks like he leaves his feet every fucking time he makes a hit.
So, if he takes a big injury one of these days, he’ll deserve it.
gotta agree. Knee-on-knee is not, on average, a play you make out of malice. We pretend that players are haters, but in reality no one hates each other enough to actually try to end a guys career,
Its a combination of two things, the speed that these guys play at and an instinctive reaction, imo. I can’t even remember the last time, if ever, I saw a knee on knee in my league (insert snide comment here). Truth is even the fastest players are not that fast and there’s no sudden moments where player A flies by player B and player B sticks his leg out.
Its just a reaction, guy goes by and something flies out to try and impede him. In my case that is generally the stick.
They are just the side-effect of trips, and trips are made with malice.
INteresting point re: trips, Coach…
Laragque took 6 minutes total of penalties on that single shift (2 for high sticking, 4 for the knee). Nice way to get going against the Wings.
It’s not dangerous (well, not as dangerous) to intentionally throw your knee into something as opposed to bumping it by accident. Ever smash your knee good and proper into a table? You weren’t moving that fast, but the lack of preparation means you hurt yourself. But if you wanted to, you could hit the table pretty hard with your knee without hurting yourself.
Same goes for elbows…if you really need to hit somethign as hard as you can, your elbow is a good choice. But hit it by accident, even relatively lightly, in the wrong spot? Funny bone my ass…
Laraque’s not too bright.
