Interesting splits on 10-83 at evens:

      10-83 together: +6/-4
      10 without 83 : +3/-0
      83 without 10 : +2/-6

      Hmmm …

A pretty rough game for Grebeshkov and Gilbert and the second straight where Gagner’s line has been overmatched. Against Chicago they had some unfavourable matches but I think they should have been able to handle the Wild. It’s too bad they felt the need to move Kotalik there for optics when Pouliot was actually working.

Bruce: I keep waiting for the breakout game and I guess I’ll just have to keep on waiting.

Scott: That line hasn’t been any great shakes since they were put together. They tore up a young/shitty Avs team in the third period and then 89 connected with 12 for a breakaway PPG at Chi.

Be it because of matchups or whatnot – macT mentioned Q was running Towes-Kane at 89 and he didn’t mind it too much – they really are getting more than full value for what they’re creating.

What I found odd today was because 18 dropped up to play with 13-34, that weakened what had been a good matchup line with 18-51-27.

Dennis: are you surprised really? Ethan HAS to play in the top nine. He’s the captain and has earned that respect, despite the fact he’s been a skating bag of shit this year.

And on the same vein, Hemsky HAS to be hurt. He’s right back to trying to beat guys with dekes and refuses to shoot the puck. Serious regression in play that can’t simply be blamed on something such as “confidence”. There’s gotta be more to it than that.

HB: in the interest of fairness, I will say that 18′s certainly curbed the dumb penalty taking since he’s come back.

I just think it makes a lot more sense to bring in a guy who can kill a faceoff and in the process keep together a line that hasn’t been too bad since it’s conception.
