Didn’t see the game, but it’s sure strange to see Penner as one of only two players on the positive side of ES SC only to get his ass nailed to the bench. MacT really seems to have a hate on for him, which must drive Kevin Lowe in particular absolutely nuts. Did he play bad and just happen to be on the ice while his teammates created and prevented scoring chances? Or does MacT simply not understand Dustin’s game?

The other guy on the positive side of the ES SC metric, Grebeshkov, posted a tidy +4 by the traditional plus/minus metric. Seems like he and Gilbert had a big bounceback from their nightmarish effort in Ottawa.

Bruce: I think it’s just to the point with MacT and 27 that MacT has new toys to play with like 19 and 21 and he’s just gonna fuck with Penner and that’s it.

Outside of 27 breaking loose and scoring a couple of goals in the same game, he’s in purgatory.

Penner must just feel rotten seeing Stortini taking shifts while he waits on the bench. I wonder how the conversation goes, if it’s just a gradual thing where they tell him to rest a shift and it snowballs or if he gets back from one lazy shift and they chastise him and tell him to sit.

A better game from the top line tonight which is good to see. Hopefully the H&H pair can build on that going into Montreal. This trip could still be very good if they pull out a win in Montreal.

Finally, the PP is just terrible. One goal in their last seven now and that one coming outside of the setup (a breakaway I think). Whoever is primarily responsible for the PP should just relinquish total control to someone else.

Scott: I think it’s 1 for 8 games, with the 1 being a breakaway for Gagner in OTT.

Not sure how much Penner begrudges shifts to Stortini, but he could learn a little from his work ethic. He also plays a different position. What is odd about this team is the current depth chart:

The four extras are ALL primarily left wingers. So there’s no comfort zone there at all.

Scott: no reason to thank me. I enjoy it and it keeps me watching because I don’t think I’d still be tuning in all the time unless I hadn’t made this commitment. Hopefully, this info can be used to prove a few theories or debunk a few myths.
