   Oilers dominated the game…

   Except for the PK. Which sucked.

   Of course, it didn’t help we had a mouth-breathing faggot in Dan Marouelli doing his best to make everyone think he’s not actually from Edmonton.

   Not a bad period at evens, it would be nice to think that the PP will pot one or two when the calls even up but ….

   Everyone but 10/83/27 in the black but they make it count.

   Interesting how 10/83 were in the red w/Penner and in the black w/Reddox.

   I guess that’s why 27 has been stapled to the bench, again.

   Although I didn’t necessarily see him as the issue. Oh well.

   I really liked how the club played in the first 40 minutes but the effort in the last 20 minutes spoiled everything.

   I hate people and things that aren’t dependable. Women, friends and teams I cheer for. I just finished watching MacT’s postgame presser and he opined that he wasn’t surprised the Wild had so much jump in the third period even though they’d played the previous night in Cgy. His reasoning? It’s a short commute so the effects aren’t far-reaching.

   Be that as it may, some times the onus to swing the tide or carry the day has to be on one’s self; or in this case the Oilers hockey club.

   The coach gave a pass to the team on Thurs because he thought the Jackets played a great game and tonight he’s pretty much doing the same. I know the man has to be diplomatic when it comes to issuing statements that make the press and are then viewable to his charges but I bow to no such shackles.

   The Oilers played a fine game for the first 40 minutes; at least certainly at evens. The ST play was spotty and there were a couple of iffy penalties but I try and separate the different domains as to figure out where the problems lie. But in the third period they totally fell apart and anytime you get out-chanced at home 2-10 – I always list the Oilers number first – to a team that you’re battling for one of the remaining playoff spots, no one should really be happy with the effort.

   Defense:

   37-77: Welcome back Grebbert! Now go away. A rough night for this pairing; especially in the third period when they were on the ice for six of the Wild’s 10 chances. Granted, they were also one for one of the Oilers two chances created but it was still an awful night for this formerly reliable tandem. For this game we can chalk it up to the rust of 37 but let’s see how they fare in the next few outings.

   24-44: high-event but they both came out on the sunny side.

   5-43: low-event and there’s two things you want to see from your third pairing: they either tear it up or nothing happens when they’re out there.

   Forwards:

   78-89-26: they started off logging four chances in the first period – three from the newly released 78 – but then fell silent for the last 40 minutes.

   18-13-34: 18 finished a mark above, 34 finished a mark below and 13 went 6/1. Not a bad night from this trio

   27/85-51-46: Second rough night in a row for 51 – he finished -3 in chances and was on the ice for both Min PPG – but 46 finished even and 81-51-46 were on the ice for a GF.

   27/85-10-83: the latter combo worked better with 85 on their left side and they managed to notch two GF. I won’t look such production in the mouth as much as I’ll say it normally doesn’t come unless a line’s soundly out-chancing it’s opponents and that hasn’t happened for our top line in quite some time now. You have to wonder if 83′s hurting.

   Dennis, I figured I’d let you know that I posted a summary of the last ten games with some thoughts.

   The quick version: Visnovsky = okay. No Visnovsky = not okay.

   Also, Dustin Penner leads all Oiler forwards by this metric over the course of the season. If there is some guy tracking this for the Oilers that has regular conversations with MacT, those conversations must be hilarious.
