Don’t look now but the Hawks are one game under 500 (never minding the OT/SO losses).

I know they have 11 points out of 14 under Savard but man, did Yawney get screwed. Havlat, Khabibulin, Handzus – all out. Calder and Bell moved on (hard to believe how poorly they are doing though).

Anyhow, with these guys and the Jackets playing better, the Norris isn’t such a disaster anymore.

Good post Tyler. Chicago's best players were better than the Oilers best players in this one. It happens.

Funny thing with this Oilers team though, even when they are getting their asses owned I always have a feeling that they just neeeded a few lucky chances to make up the difference on the scoreboard. That scenario could easily have happened tonight as well.

Strange team that way. Grabia is going to need to be medicated by the end of the season Mrs Grabia moreso.

Bah. It’s Christmas season. They were thinking Tiffany’s on N. Michigan Avenue. “Will my girl leave me for the man formerly known as Orbs if I don’t back up the truck at Saks?” Probably makes it tough to focus on the game.

Good day, Tyler.

Hope you don't mind my intangible-2-cents.

I'm not hanging this loss on the officiating, because I'm from the school of 'suck-it-up-buttercup'... You play the hand you're dealt and the boys earned their PK time. It would be nice to have consistent calls from game to game, tho.

I don't have the time to look, but it seems to me that there were a lot of penalties called over the weekend. Perhaps the powers that be felt the striped shirts had been slipping.

Anyway...

The boys were out of sync, from the coaches on down. odd player preferences, tentative reads, forced plays, not taking what the game gave... and the game gave some golden opportunities.

Forces across the blue lines resulted in goals against. D-zone - MacT's golden boy, Petersen to Pouliot/Vandermeer & O-zone - Horcoff to Tjarnqvist/Havlat. Both these guys had simple options. *sigh*

The game giveth...

I championed MAB when he became the favourite whipping boy, but even I am getting tired of his fear in the O-zone. Right out of the penalty box he has a 2-on-1 with Horcoff and a chance to put the Oil up 1-0 with a SH goal. He sees the shot and doubts his ability to make it, so he waits too long and forces the play over to a covered Horcoff.

Maybe O-zone fear is contagious, because the game also gave Pisani the perfect shot on a PK breakaway, and he dumps it off to no-hands-Petersen.

... and the game taketh away...

3 posts and a premature whistle.

More times than not, you get what you deserve.

All in all, plenty of second guessing and yips to go around. *sigh* Let's hope they learn something from this stinker.

In regards to your info on Colin Nystuen, I played Bantam “AA” in Naicam, SK with him when he was an underaged player. By far the best player I have ever played with, and at that time he was 2 years younger than me. He had an amazing work ethic, was a great kid and had very strong family backing, and I have no doubt he would have at least been a 1st round NHL pick. He is now about 6’5″ and would have rounded out to about 220 – 230lbs. I see Rick Nash whenever I think of what Colin would have become and it makes me very sad. He is about 26 now, but because of the accident he will never be able to maintain any real employment. His motor skills are very weak, although he does seem to be mostly there mentally. The other sad thing is that the driver of the car that Colin was in was also on our team, and his sister was in the back seat with Colin when the accident occurred. She was very severely injured as well, but that seems to be forgotten in all this.
