I’m still waiting for the bugs to get ironed out so for now you’ll have to take my word on the 4-2 W at Ana but tonight marked the third time in the last four games where the Oilers actually played decently at EV and that’s about all we can hang onto right now.

Sure, the Oilers lost the ST battle but that seems to be our lot in life as we have seemingly angered the gods in a way that means we’ll never get a leg up when we’re not playing five-on-five.

So, I know the Avs were playing the backend of a back-to-back but they had a strong goal-differential coming in and the Oilers played without 83 so well done by the young club.

Let’s all enjoy this one as two of the next three games – sat vs SJ and wed at mtl – will probably feature merciless canings.

Dennis, were you planning on compiling all of this for a quarter pole update? Or perhaps someone else could do that as Mr King is doing the heavy lifting and actually watching every single game!

It would be interesting to see where everyone is at and then doing comparisons by quarter.

Interesting to note tonight is the fact that 13 and 67 didn’t get eaten alive. How often has that happened?

And Gilbert and Peckham with good numbers. I have really liked what I see of Peckham. And here’s hoping that this is the beginning of something good for 77.

Pat: Either of or maybe both of DZ and Quain have a running tally kept somewhere I’m sure:)

There are four games I need to post and I have them logged but I need Vic to resurface and iron out a minor bug or two.

BTW, I saw your comments about maybe playing 27-13-67, 4-10-14 and 91-89-83 as the top three lines and that would give 91 a reason to get up in the morning;) and the 13-67 combo a little boost. The only problem I see with that is it might take away from Renney’s plan to give so much TOI to the 4-14 combo.

And, yeah, nice job by the 49-77 combo – I laughed when 77 stayed back on a 49 pinch – and also a “nice” night from the 2-26 pairing as well!!

Well as you noted earlier at LT’s the Oilers are just two good defenders away from having a reasonable D. I wonder if that Souray guy is available? Not a worldbeater but he might make a difference you’d think. ;)

So only two guys on the back end and then what a half dozen up front? My God.

But it might be the way to go. 27/89/83 is the one line that can give the toughs a go but if you want 91 to get comfortable he needs to play with quality and its obvious from how last year finished up (and tonight) that Penner can keep 13 and 67 afloat at least some of the time.

I think 13 and 67 are redundant on this club but if you can pump them playing with Penner then you might get a young Dman or a big young forward who can check in return and then you’re getting somewhere.

Peckham for me has been an absolute revelation. He may top off as a bottom pairing guy if this club ever gets good but he may have more upside than that. He can skate and hit and with experience he may get better still. He’s the fourth best defenceman on this club already. Says a little about this club of course. But still good for him.

      Pat,

I was waiting until Dennis got his three games posted to do a full run, but it looks like it will be awhile before Vic gets that worked out. It will be up on Sunday, I believe. There will be some fun WOWY with it.

Dennis, are you going to get the second Phoenix game up?

    8. November 26, 2010 at

Yeah, so the game was on TSN/RDS and so I watched part of the 2nd and 3d. 3 points:

      - Dustin Penner is a very large mammal. I’d love to see him alongside Gomez, if EDM is dumb enough to trade him.
      - That kid wearing #14? Jeebus. I see him, I think of Hal Gill and I get nervous.
      - I just don’t understand how, on a strict financial basis, it makes sense for them to tank this year.

      Oh, and a fourth:

      - Crowd was dead silent in the 2nd frame. Kinda creepy. I guess I would be, too.

It doesn’t. Good luck explaining that to the average person wearing a Taylor Hall jersey.

Coach: that game won’t load so it’s that game, the 2-1 W at Chi, the 4-2 W at Ana and the 7-2 L at Carolina that won’t load.

Maybe Vic shows up in the next day or two and maybe you can wait and do something after G27 for a bit of a different 1/3 of the season look:)

Pat: 49 is comfortable and content with being a bully and that means a lot because you have to like it to do that game in and game out and it appears he does:)

Olivier: it looks like 83′s gonna be out for a week or so, so, I don’t believe you should be too concerned about the Oilers next wed. and it’s a shame too because I grew up with HNIC having a major Cuntreal basis and most of my friends were CTL fans so even though I know the Oilers suck and I don’t get as caught up in the game-to-game results as I used to, when the Oil play CTL and the Leaves I go old school and geek out:)

      Dennis

What’s happening with the games that are failing in the scoring chance app?

    12. November 26, 2010 at

Vic: when I enter the game it says game number is invalid.

    13. November 26, 2010 at

Dennis: That whole “Cuntreal” schtick is cute :). Blends in nicely with the whole Peel Pub / Crescent Street subculture hockey is associated with in this city, too.

    14. November 26, 2010 at

O: It’s not schtick, I honestly used to hate them that much when you’d only see hky on one channel and I couldn’t get away from it:)

      BTW, everyone loves that nickname:)

      Dennis,

I wrote this script on Boxing day nearly three years ago, mostly to avoid interacting with my mother-in-law. It was a stream of consciousness, I didn’t make any notes in my program at all.

      Is the error message:
“Game Number as Entered is not Valid” ?

And send me the url that was passed if you have it. That will give me a fighting chnce to figure out what went wrong.

      November 26, 2010 at

      Olivier, have you had problems?

    17. November 26, 2010 at

Interesting to note that Gilbert was on the ice for 11 out of 13 EV SCF. Trivia add: Tom was involved in a 12th chance, Cogliano’s goal, on which he was officially awarded the first (!) assist even though he was on the bench by the time Cogs potted it. That was the one where Brule went in on the hard forecheck and never did touch the puck but did cause the mishandle and eliminate the defender. Gilbert got the puck going in the right direction on that one too, then made the change. Second assist went to Hall, who was also on the bench so didn’t get a plus either. Pretty unusual scoring play.

To clarify, this is actually the unattributed goal that you record above at 16:09, which was the one credited to 13. Note 4 and 77 aren’t even on the ice. (The first goal was awarded to 67 eventually.)

All in all, a very good night indeed for the 49-77 pairing, both of whom both Derek and I singled out in our respective post game reports. The scoring chance data sure supports what the eye saw.

    18. November 26, 2010 at

Vic: Nope, everything is A1. I get the “Game Number as Entered is not Valid” when I only enter the game number (without inputing any chances) and then hit the “submit” button or hit “enter” after entering the number in the field.

Which, being a clumsy fella, I do all the time.

Dennis: I spent a fairly large chunk of my life rooting against the habs too. But then the Nords moved to Colorado so I switched to Basbeall and then the expos moved to WSH, so, out of spite and being an ironic ntellectual type, I started “rooting” for the hated habs so they’d move too.

Of course I’m now genuinly rooting for them. What can I say, I’m a tuncoat.
